About John

Fueled by his musical curiosity and the need to tell stories of perseverance and resilience, performer/producer/composer John Gray explores everything from Nigerian Jazz Fusion, to Soul-inspired Electronica, to Progressive Americana.

John Gray has performed as a bassist with jazz legend James Moody, international classical piano soloist Xiayin Wang, and Tony-nominated broadway vocalist Vivian Reed. John’s performing credits include the WQXR Holiday Special, the AAPI Jazz Festival, and the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. As a composer and producer, his music was featured in the syndicated British car show Top Gear, and the award-winning short film Ecstasy and Agony.

John’s motivation to break new musical ground by matching odd bedfellows led to successful album collaborations with Marvin Dolly, The Jazz Thieves, and Single Girl / Married Girl. These projects were profiled in The New York Times, Jazziz Magazine and American Songwriter.  Additionally, he was featured in commercial recordings for the video game Empire of Sin, the Australian Kids TV show Beep and Mort, and the original cast recording of Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium.

With a degree from Manhattan School of Music, John is currently available for performances and recording projects on bass, composing and producing projects, and educational outreach.
